Maytag’s New Repairman Advertisements
Maytag has started to advertise the Maytag repairman in a new light. The new strategy seems to be that repairs are not needed on Maytag appliances. This causes the repairman to change to a new role. This new role, however, does not change the traditional, familiar clothes that we are used to seeing with the Maytag repairman. This outfit is the blue suit and hat. Maytag is calling this “a transformation of the widely known and iconic Maytag Repairman”.
The old advertisements used to show the repairman with nothing to fix as the Maytag brand was too reliable. However, with the new commercials, the repairman is playing the role of the actual appliance. For example, one commercial has the repairman tucked under a counter playing the role of a Maytag Jetclean Dishwasher, oven or the washer and dryers. As they state in the video, “nothing beats the hard working hum of a Maytag home”.
The character being represented in the advertisements are entertaining. The repairman’s behavior is aimed at representing Maytag’s brand attributes which are reliability, power and durability.
